Welcome to Le-Dragon-Vert!

Le Dragon Vert is a beautifully restored farmhouse with three bedrooms, with its own attached one-acre field. It is set amongst woods and fields in the lovely Vallee du Seye. It is reached via a drive, set away from the road and is in an elevated position with glorious views across the valley. The house has a private pool (8m x 4m, depth 1m to 2.5m), together with a brick-built barbecue, within its large, secluded garden. The pool has the advantage of a domed cover, which can be retracted and is perfect for out-of-season bathing. The pool is fenced, in accordance with French law. There is a large table and chairs in a shaded patio area of the garden, perfect for outside dining. The farmhouse has three bedrooms, sleeping eight people in total. The sunny, large kitchen has a microwave, etc, plus another large dining table and six chairs. French doors lead to the garden. The house is one hour from Toulouse Airport or Rodez Airport. Nearest facilities are in Verfeil-Sur-Seye, a five-minute drive away, where there is a patisserie and bar/restaurant. Stunning St Antonin-Noble Val is a fifteen-minute drive away - not to be missed.

The house retains many of its original features and also has a woodburner in the living room, in order that it can be comfortably enjoyed all year round. Firewood is provided. The charming living room has beams and the original stone evier. This cosy room boasts a comfortable sofa and two armchairs. The delightful garden with its large swimming pool (8m x 4m) and  offers total tranquillity, with a number of beautiful trees providing shade.  The terrace with large table and chairs is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal after a swim in the pool.  Lunch could be prepared on the barbeque closeby.

Table tennis can also be played outside.

The house is in a charming rural area, but is well-placed for visiting the many beautiful towns and villages in the Tarn-et-Garonne, as detailed later. The nearest main town to Le Dragon Vert is St Antonin-Noble-Val, which is described below.

Other charming towns to visit in the area are:

Montauban

Montauban is a 30-minute drive from Le Dragon Vert and lies on the banks of the River Tarn, 50 miles north of Toulouse.  It is the capital of the Tarn-et-Garonne department and is one of the most ancient cities in south-west France, dating from 1144.  The original Medieval town is still in existence and is utterly charming, with its pink brick houses and the 14th century bridge, Pont Vieux.

Villefranche-de-Rouergue

Villefranche is another stunning 13th century bastide town, 18 miles from Le Dragon Vert. The town has two charming main streets, full of the most interesting shops. These range from patisseries and charcuteries to the best designer boutiques. The fabulous main square – Place Notre Dame – is known as the loveliest bastide central square in the region. Coffee shops and restaurants abound around the square. The square was built on a slope, so the uphill houses are much higher than those found in most other bastide towns and a market is held here every Thursday morning at ground level of the square. The town has two lovely churches, one of which, Chatreuse-St-Sauveur, boasts superb cloisters and woodcarvings. The old bridge and riverfront are delightful. Again, there are several restaurants overlooking the river.

Albi

Albi is a large Medieval town, 50 miles north-east of Toulouse.  It, again, has conserved its rich architectural heritage.  It was built around the original cathedral and the ancient historic area covers 3 hectares.  The old bridge, dating from 1035, is still in use today.  Albi is the home of the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum and holds the largest public collection in the world devoted to Toulouse-Lautrec.

Tarn-et-Garonne

Tarn-et-Garonne is part of the Midi-Pyrenees region, created in 1808 by Napoleon I. The countryside around Le Dragon Vert towards St Antonin-Noble-Val is green and fertile, with fields of purple lavender, sunflowers and lush green vineyards, depending on the season. There are wonderful gorges, caves and grottoes to explore. This varied countryside also gives the opportunity to try canoeing, rafting and rock-climbing, as well as horse-riding, walking and cycling. There is a tennis court at Verfeil-sur-Saye. For swimming, there is a wonderful man-made beach and lake at nearby Parisot, with all water and leisure facilities. There are many restaurants in the area.

The summers in the Tarn-et-Garonne are generally long and hot. Spring and autumn are usually mild. The winter season is cold, but fairly dry and is much shorter than that in the UK.

St Antonin-Noble-Val

St Antonin is a stunning Medieval town and is considered to be one of the most picture perfect towns in France, with its winding streets and shady squares and many shops and restaurants. One of the best days to visit this stunning town is Sunday, which is market day. The town absolutely buzzes with all the wonderful, colourful stalls, selling everything one could imagine, including local crafts and produce. Market day in St Antonin is a very special day – all year round – don’t miss it! Why not make a day of it and have coffee, followed by lunch in the tree-lined square or under the shade by the museum and just drink in the atmosphere.

The backdrop to this lovely town is the towering Roc d’Anglars, part of the spectacular Gorge.

The Gorge stretches for miles and presents perfect opportunities for exploring, by foot, bicycle or on horseback.  The River Aveyron is the centrepiece for the area and St Antonin is the main area for canoeing along the River’s tranquil route through the Gorge and picturesque wooded valleys.  The town was used as the set for the film, “Charlotte Gray”.  Many of the residents also appeared in the film as extras!  In fact, this whole area of the Tarn-et-Garonne is known for its stunning woodland areas and totally unspoilt bastide towns and villages – a retreat from the modern world and the perfect place to unwind.
